Hope ... And The Hedgehog by Tom Vaughan + Giveaway

Join us for this tour from August 15 to September 2, 2022!

Book Details:

Book TitleHope...And The Hedgehog by Tom Vaughan
Category:  Adult Non-Fiction (18+),  100 pages
GenrePhilosophy/Spirituality/New-Age
Publisher:  Choir Press
Release date:  May 2022
Content Rating:  G. It has no swearwords or sex scenes.

Book Description:

Hope…. And The Hedgehog is a ‘pocketbook philosophy for the present age’, a digestible exploration of the meaning of life which aims to unpick the big questions most of us spend our lives avoiding: how did life begin, how does it end, and what happens to us after we die?

Is there life after death? Is there a higher power? Or, is life one big cosmic accident; a clash of particles and atoms and one big bang? Tom looks instead at the power of faith and spirituality which he separates from religion. While he does not attempt to present any definitive argument, he looks at all sides, gathering thoughts from history’s most influential philosophers and scientists.

He makes the proposition that, between only two possible explanations for the existence of life, there is a greater likelihood of the one over the other. He believes in the importance of opening up our minds and finding more of a sense of purpose and direction in life - a view that, as we look towards a post-lockdown future, will resonate with many people.

"I chose the book’s title Hope ... and the Hedgehog because hope is one of the principal drivers we resort to as human beings when confronted with a challenge to which there is no obvious solution. In the case of this book, that challenge is a very prickly issue: how we came into existence. It is an issue that we are all drawn to, but at the same time we do not want to handle or investigate too closely. Like the proverbial elephant in the room, we know that little hedgehog is there, we just prefer to leave it be – even if, in the end, there is no avoiding it."  - Tom Vaughan, May 2022.

Content Rating:  G. Business Book on Economics

 #1 Best-Seller in Inflation & Economics History!

Book Description:

A Plethora of Wealth - Knowledge - Insights, that will help you take over the World and Beyond!

Government and the Central Banks have been managing the economic business cycle for over 100 years, creating the biggest Ponzi scheme of money printing ever invented in the history of civilization, as we now find ourselves living in a precarious house of cards. By hallowing out our manufacturing, have we diminished our inventiveness? What role did China really play in this, and what role did our own selfish desire affect the outcome, and what was the trade-off?

Is this the beginning of the end of US monetary global dominance, and how long can we print fiat money to support the vestiges of a declining Empire? Is the cost of living going up, or is it because currency is rapidly depreciating? What is the true source of effective inflation, and why is the wealth divide becoming greater?

The pages of this book bring to light the roots of our economic order of today, and help explain the world around us, how we arrived here, and what might lie ahead.

The Practical MBA on Economics is comprehensive, fast-paced, making for magnificent theatre, full of spills and chills, from stock market crashes to sovereign debt default, to the 1944 Bretton Woods reset, the IMF, the WTO, U.S. Dollar reserve, and mercantilism. We come to meet the economic thinkers that shape our world today from Adam Smith, Richard Cantillon, John Maynard Keynes, David Ricardo, Murray Rothbard, and Milton Friedman.

With intellectual clarity, insights, wit and humour, Gulesserian challenges the narrative, simplifies complex economic ideas, and draws from historical events, to explain how we came to the current financial world order, its perils, and the future of tomorrow!

With compelling antidotes that entertain, filled with relevance and a library of knowledge that leaves the reader feeling full, and liberated to unlock the future. So, butter your popcorn, do fasten your seat belts, and enjoy the ride.

Guest Post by Joseph Gulessarian: So,Who Is Greedy Here - Corporations or Government? Taxation and Large Government Essential Bedfellows

Businesses seem to be the go-to villain for both government and the public who buys into this narrative. Federal income tax was introduced as a temporary measure for funding the first world war but has evolved as a vehicle to confiscate the fruits of one’s labour and industriousness. Without Firms and the taxation of its subjects, government has no shoulders to stand on to perpetuate its largeness and non-stop cycle of fear and crises.

In Canada, when blending federal taxes with provincial taxes, for those in the $64,000 to $75,000 income bracket, the tax rate is about 35%. Then one can add about 6% for Employment Insurance contributions and Canada Pension Plan. The abuse doesn’t end there, and then one gets soaked for another 13% HST at retail (VAT), property tax and hidden energy taxes when at the gas pumps for a total takedown nearer to 57% of income.

When one embraces large government, what is often not considered is that these services could be provided for 20 cents on the dollar from the private sector with an outcome of more efficiency and accountability. As Canadians are basking in their socialist utopia, and America begging for the same self-flagellation, all of which lead to tyranny, and in the background the denied insolvency of Western governments is muted. In many cases, government finances are like the fallen toxic SPACs of Wall Street.

Sadly, we have become desensitized as to how individual liberty is now considered heresy as it has been degraded by collective subservience and dependency on government, passing off as progress. By government taking the fruitions of one’s labour, it amounts to confiscation of wealth and thuggery. Yet strangely, the Plebeians are passionately willing to defend their government master, much like the Stockholm Syndrome. In a twisted way, this is contemporary acceptance of slavery in the 21st century!

Democracy has evolved now in the West, as to having the right to pick our next elitist oppressor who only needs fiat money via the central banks to bribe us into shackles of docility and compliance.

This is how totalitarianism takes root, first in the weakened mind and then in the collective civilization.

Child Of Etherclaw by Matty Roberts + Giveaway

Join us for this tour from August 2 to August 22, 2022!

Book Details:

Book Title: CHILD OF ETHERCLAW by Matty Roberts
Category:  Young Adult Fiction (13-18+),  348 pages
Genre: Sci-Fi/Dystopian
Publisher:  Twilight Fox LLC
Release date:  August 2, 2022
Formats Available for Review: print (softback) (USA and Canada) and ebook (EPUB and PDF)
Tour dates: August 2 to August 22, 2022
Content Rating:  PG-13 PG-13 for some profanity and mild violence.
Book Description:

The bonds of family go well beyond blood.

But can those bonds hold when the blood itself carries a devastating secret?

Fenlee's opal necklace had always radiated a certain warmth since her mother's death. But now, at sixteen, her world begins to unravel as the stone sparks to life, revealing itself to be an otherworldly artifact of untold power.

Between her mechatronics studies at the academy and scavenging expeditions beneath the sprawling city of New Cascadia, Fenlee and her adopted brother, Elliot, try to decipher the mysteries of her necklace and its link to events in Fenlee's past.

But they're not alone in their search.

Strange undercity dwellers offer cryptic warnings, drones track their movements, and deadly corporate agents lurk in the shadows. When tragedy rips Fenlee's family apart, she must learn to use the artifact's power to save those who are deeply precious to her. But nothing can prepare her for the dark truths that she will uncover on that journey…

“Lee,” Elliot mumbled. “I'm not who you think I am.”

Child Of Etherclaw is a compelling dystopian science fiction novel in which sixteen year old Fenlee and her younger brother, Elliot, try to identify and understand a strange new power that seems to have started emanating from an opal necklace that Fenlee always wears - a gift from her deceased mother. Despite the young ages of our leading characters, I would definitely recommend this book for older readers (such as myself) as well as the young adult audience for which it is written. Child Of Etherclaw explores differing concepts of family, both blood relationships and deep friendships, as well as showing how people can always have something to offer even when their outward appearance might lead others to write them off. This was particularly true of probably my favourite character, the almost monosyllabic street child Nico. Unused to social niceties such as indoor bathrooms or even wearing shoes, his unique skills still prove to be vital.

I loved how Matty Roberts portrayed their non-typical characters without making a big deal out of their differences. The relationships between them are convincing with strong dialogue so, although the central adventure is otherworldly and far from our present-day life on Earth, I had no trouble immersing  myself in the story and rooting for Fenlee and Elliott to succeed. I think Child Of Etherclaw would appeal to readers who enjoyed John Darryl Winston's IA series or Cruel Summer by Bernard Jan.

Meet the Author:

Matty Roberts began their career in journalism where they earned an Emmy and had the privilege of working on several other award-winning projects. They hold an MS from Johns Hopkins University and are now an engineer in renewable energy in Denver, Colorado where they live with their wonderful partner, two extraordinary kids, and the best doggie ever. In addition to writing, engineering, and parenting, Matty is a vegan enby nerd who is in love with this world and will forever be doing all they can to make it a better place. And they may be known to occasionally play in a punk band here or there.

The Wrong Side of Murder is another wonderful cozy mystery by author Lauren Carr. It has all the elements that draw me in - an intelligent female lead, an equally smart boyfriend who partners to help her, a complicated plot where clues are slowly revealed, people who aren't what they seem to be, comedic moments to balance the darker ones, and several quirky pets full of personality.

It's a wonderful book to escape into at the end of the day. And get ready to read into the wee hours as, if you're like me, you won't be able to stop reading until the mystery is revealed.
