5 Books, 1 Theme - Road Trip

For July's 5 Books, 1 Theme post I got to thinking about summer travelling opportunities and the ubiquitous American Road Trip sprang to mind. I could only remember reading two relevant American-set novels (including, of course, the Kerouac classic), but I've got three European-set takes on the theme as well.

Have you read any of these five books? If so, what did you think of them?
Which other Road Trip novels can you recommend?

  1. I tried reading On The Road but DNFed it. I didn't like the film either!

    1. I haven't seen the film, but did love my audiobook edition of On The Road. Matt Dillon narrated it and I think the story style did benefit from being spoken.

    1. I'm not sure that any of these would suit your usual reading choices, Mary :-/

  3. I haven't had a chance to read all these books yet but one or two from this list sound good reading.

  4. Portugal and Happiness both sound like excellent subject matters for a road trip! Though the fact you say Lost Children Archive is your favorite makes me want to look it up!! ❤️

    1. Happiness is a good read and the geriatric George's Tour De France attempt is a lovely heart-warming novel. Lost Children Archive just blew me away though - a real wow!
