A Month In Books - May 2019

Welcome to May's Month In Books roundup! I will link this post up with Nicole's Monthly Wrap-Up Round-Up at Feed Your Fiction Addiction.

First important news: Happy Birthday to Literary Flits! Tomorrow marks three years of a-book-a-day and you can see the index of every book featured here. My sincerest admiration goes out to anyone who has read them all? (Full disclosure: I haven't!)

Completely unintentionally on my part, May turned out to be the Month Of Memoirs. A nice bit of alliteration for those of us who like that sort of thing! Nine of my reviews were memoirs or biographies. I also reviewed two great cookery books and have reviews of another two lined up for June. May's books were more of a mixed bag than I've had for ages though. I actually DNFd two books, both of which would have been the fifth for their respective WorldReads posts so I now need to find more books by Rwandan and Chilean authors! Any recommendations?

Regular blog series:
In May I blogged Bookish Bingo and State of the ARC updates as well as a Cover Characteristics collection featuring Railways. My 5 Books, 1 Theme quintet are all books which have been made into films. WorldReads featured books from Wales and I will be 'visiting' Pakistan for June's WorldReads on the 5th. And I'm still up to date with actually Reading my Books From The Backlog.
Phew! I think that's everything?

Now, on with this Reading Roundup!

Spotlights

My Book Of The Month for May is the amazingly powerful How We Disappeared by Jing-Jing Lee, a historical fiction novel of Chinese women in Japanese-occupied Singapore during the Second World War.

I hope you have found some books to tempt you in this selection! You can keep up with my daily book posts on Literary Flits and don't forget all the Giveaways are listed in my Giveaway Linkup.

  5. I have just finished a book so I'm going to go through your reviews and try something new. I'm not very good at just picking a new author.
