50/50 Friday - Favourite Book Starting with A/Z

50/50 Friday is hosted at The Butterfly Reader and at Blue Eye Books.

"What is 50/50 Friday?
Everyone has a favourite and then we also have something we dislike. Like a coin, there are two sides to every question. Example: best sequel you've read/worst sequel you've read. So that's what 50/50 Friday is all about. We will have a new topic every Friday (something bookish of course!). If you have have ideas for this meme don't be scared to let us know!"

This week's topic:
Favourite Book Starting with A/Z

This is a good topic for me because, for the first time this year, I am doing an Alphabet Soup Challenge - ie reading books beginning with each letter of the alphabet during the year. My A challenge read is A Dip In My Ocean by A G Stranger, but I am yet to find a Z so I am hoping to get ideas from other people blogging theirs!

For my Favourite Book Starting with A though, I choose Ablutions by Patrick deWitt which I read in December 2013. It's a weird novel that certainly wouldn't appeal to everyone, but I loved it!

And my Favourite Book Starting with Z has to be Zugzwang by Ronan Bennett even though I only gave it a 3-star rating. According to my Goodreads, it's my only book beginning with Z!

You can see everyone else's 50/50 Friday posts at The Butterfly Reader and at Blue Eye Books, and find out what next week's prompt will be.

  1. I haven't heard of either of your choices!! I agree with you that it was difficult to find titles that start with the letter z. Both of my book choices had the word "the" at the start of the title, followed by a word that began with "a" or "z".

Thanks for stopping by and leaving me a comment on my blog! Happy reading!

  2. Interesting. I haven't read or heard of either of those books.

  3. I can't say I've ever heard of either of these... Thanks for sharing! :)

  4. I used Goodreads too. :-) Someday I would like to try something like the Alphabet Soup Challenge. It sounds like fun. I hope you have a great weekend!

  5. I don't think I'll be much help in the whole search for a Z book... I actually have never read a book that started with Z although there are a few on my TBR. Zugzwang sounds interesting! Even though you only gave it three stars, I think I have to check out it based on the name alone (I only recently familiarized myself with the term zugzwang and it's associations with chess) although based on your thoughts, maybe I should brush up on my chess before reading it :) Thanks for linking up, Stephanie!

    1. 3 stars is still a Good in my ratings and there were plenty of plus points through the story. I think I did need chess knowledge so if you could brush up before reading ... !

  6. I've never heard of any of these but I swear, I'm so freaking out of the loop...

    Thanks for linking up!
