State Of The ARC - April 2018

I saw this State of the ARC meme over at Avalinah's Books blog in January and thought it would be fun to join in.

The idea is to keep track of all the ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) books I've got awaiting reading and reviewing, and to make headway through the overdue pile. For my State of the ARC, I am including all books sent to me for review whether they are pre-publication copies (as ARCs should be) or simply review copies of books already available publicly. I don't include books that I have purchased myself, book exchange swaps, or free downloads.

In April I blogged my reviews of these ARCs:

I might have gone on just a little a bit of a NetGalley splurge at the beginning of April! That rule about One Review Written equals One Book Requested got abandoned in a frenzy because there were suddenly so many great looking covers ... oops!

Still, one of the splurge books was my first Graphic Novel (Perfect World volume 1 by Rie Aruga) which I read and reviewed the same day. It's that good! And I was offered amazing poetry (Last Stop To Saskatoon by Tony Nesca) which is reviewed on Literary Flits today. Go take a look!

Here's my State of the ARC numbers as of today:

RRB (Read, Reviewed and Blogged) essentially means those book reviews are completed and I'm just waiting for their scheduled blog post date.

I'm a bit worried this month because my Books Read was less than my Books In and I am getting behind on my review due dates. I like to have at least a fortnight to spare, whereas right now I am getting myself into Overdue Stress. I even tried the classic Head In Sand approach mid-month, ignoring all the ARCs and reading a couple of completely different books instead. It was nice during their reads but, unsurprisingly, made absolutely no difference to the ARC pile! So, drastic measures for May. I plan to not request or buy or swap any books At All for a month. And I will steadfastly read through as many of my already owned books as possible. Wish me luck!

No State Of The ARC would be complete without checking out the additions to my ARC stash so here are April's new arrivals:

If you want to join this State of the ARC meme check out This Page at Avalinah's Books.

My next State of the ARC will be blogged on the 29th May.

  1. I never stick to my book restrictions and recently, I seem to book grab without caring! I can remember getting into almost overdue stress time so you have my sympathy!

    1. Thank you :-)
I'm normally so organised, but seem to be in a bit of a reading slump right now :-(

  2. I'm in the same sort of dilemma where my books in is far outpacing the books I finish and review. As the pile gets bigger and bigger, I find myself less motivated to even tackle it. I just have such a problem with pacing myself! I'm going to try to pay more attention to the pile in increments, though, and just read one per weekend. Best of luck on your pile, Stephanie! You have a much more solid plan than I do :)

  3. This feature will definitely help me with my pile. Though, I've got a similar one recorded on my journal and on a spreadsheet. Lol.

    Good luck!

  4. I have so many past due arcs. Way past due. I am working on it though. It looks like you are doing well with things overall.

  5. While my backlog is not ARCs - I don't accept them since switching my blog - I feel your pain on being behind. That's actually what I wrote about today too!

  6. There are some great covers in here! And you read a lot of books :D I'm also technically on a Netgalley-ban right now, but I rarely keep myself to it... And now I feel like looking around again...

    1. It's so difficult to keep away! I posted a review yesterday and managed not to look at new books, but not sure I can last all month!

  7. You got a lot of new books - good for you, even if you hauled more than you read. You have a TON of books on here and I'm excited to hear how these turn out:)

  8. You are doing such a great job! It's amazing and inspiring and I wish I would get my numbers so low one day too. My due arcs number is growing and growing; I am terrified.

I hope you can get your own numbers to stop growing. This reviewing lark stop being fun when the pile is overwhelming

  9. I had to halt the NetGalley requests too! Until last night of course when I found one about the Mafia.

  10. You're doing such a good job! We all need a little break from review copies sometimes, even if we get to play catch-up after. Good luck with your next month of reading, and with your requesting ban!

  11. Hiya :) thank you for joining! I'm sorry I'm so late in visiting, I guess maybe a pingback didn't come trough (they don't always), and I'm so behind on my comment replies :)

Even if you went on a NetGalley binge, you seem to be doing read, only 4 overdue books in general :) doing great!

I have actually been requesting much less myself, so let's hope we can make our stats better in May :)
